Exige is a clothing brand created by Ali “alish2001” Shariatmadari in early 2018:
My main goal with this brand was to use capture the strong and subtle emotions felt throughout life. From the unfortunate to the festive, and from the defeated to the victorious I wanted there to be an underlying message and emotion behind every design. As noted on the product pages, and in some cases directly written on the piece itself, each item represents a memory fragment for me. I have manifested my experiences and emotions into every design with each containing its own special tale to tell.
My design philosophy is simple: Narrowing down an experience or feeling into a one or two words, and then creating a visual representation out of it. I to imagine/create everything in black and white and only add color to the elements necessary, resulting in a very minimal look with high contrast.
Logo & Name
The name presented itself in my head months before the idea was close to being a reality. In English, it translates into “demands”/”required” and relates to how emotion is required for us as a biological response to keep us in check. It’s also a metaphor for the “demand” that Exige products have (xd). The domain name plays on this as when exige.supply means demand.supply also relating to supply and demand, in economics, the relationship between the quantity of a commodity that producers wish to sell at various prices and the quantity that consumers wish to buy. The logo is actually made up of all the individual characters E X I G E. The two Es are on each side of the top, the X is in the middle, the I is capital and italic, and the G is composed of angular triangles in the middle.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope you enjoy my designs as much as I enjoyed creating them. I am currently in a rigorous Software Engineering program at the University of Waterloo so new releases are not of my highest priority, but I am still trying my best.
